Android 9 Pie Update Details for Nokia Smartphones

Earlier this year, Google released the Android Pie Developer Preview to Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL users, along with several other smartphone manufacturers like Nokia and OnePlus. As most devices from HMD Global are part of the Android One program, they were the first in line to get the stable build. Recently, the company announced that the Android Pie update will be rolling out to all Nokia/HMD’s devices, which is excellent news for everyone. The Nokia 6.1 and 7 have already started receiving the Android Pie update that comes with tons of new features, and it is scheduled to arrive on more devices. The Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco will get it by the end of November.

Now the question remains, will every Nokia device get the Android 9.0 Pie update? Well, one thing is certain that any phone released within the last 12-18 months will definitely get them. Most of the devices are still in the two-year guaranteed update window that Google demands for its flagship updates. And to satisfy every user, Nokia released a statement claiming that every single Nokia device will be updated to Android Pie in future, the only question is when. The Nokia 7 Plus was the first device to get Android Pie as a member of the beta program and now the Nokia 6.1 and 6.1 Plus are joining the bandwagon with more following soon. The announcement was made by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, on Twitter.

What’s different with Android Pie?

With the Android 9.0 Pie update, you can do more with your handset. You can enjoy auto-fill improvements along with tons of ‘smart’ features. There are new gesture navigation controls, digital well-being options, adaptive battery saver, themes, Google assistant improvements, and much more. However, keeping in mind that most of the Nokia smartphones are a part of the Android One program, few of features might be different or missing.

Coming back to Nokia, we expect several other Nokia phones to get betas, join betas, or see official updates by November and December. It is also expected that the new phones from Nokia in 2019 will arrive with Android Pie out of the box.
