LG V40 Running Android 9 Pie Spotted On Geekbench

While some manufacturers have already rolled out Android Pie to their premium handsets, there are quite a few that have yet to appear on the list. Speaking of which, LG seems to be testing Android Pie for LG V40 ThinQ. Yes, the first triple camera handset of the company that is, unfortunately, only available in the US and Korea. In the US, the handset is on a number of carriers with the lowest price being $900. Nonetheless, we’ve come across a Geekbench listing that suggests Android Pie for the device is on the cards.

The Geekbench listing shows the model number LGE LM-V405 shows a 6GB variant of the handset with Snapdragon 845. The Android version is displayed as Android 9. This means that the handset is being tested for Android Pie and is hopefully in the beta stage. The LG V40 ThinQ was released back in early October with Android Oreo. LG doesn’t have a very good track record for Android updates and there’s still nothing official regarding Android Pie updates on the LG V40 ThinQ. Moreover, with the carrier barrier in the US, these big OS updates tend to take even more time. The first handset that LG upgraded to Android Pie was the LG G7 One which is obviously under the Android One program.

This is in contrast to a recent development when LG opened a “Software Center Upgrade” in April this year. However, after seven months, that upgrade center whose aim was to provide solid post-sales software updates seems like simply hot talk. Even the company’s global flagship, the LG G7 ThinQ is left stranded with no official information regarding Android Pie.

Hopefully, after LG V40, there will be developments for the LG G7 ThinQ. These are the brand’s top class flagships and if there will be any OS update, it will be these two devices that will get it first.

The LG V40 ThinQ is the first V-series device to sport five cameras and a notch. The rear trinity is comprised of a 12MP standard sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide lens, and a third 12MP telephoto shooter. The front houses an 8MP and a 5MP wide-angle secondary shooter. It is sold in Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue,Platinum Gray, and Carmine Red colour shades.
